Franchy Cordero Has Impressive Raw Power
4 years agoBoston Red Sox outfielder Franchy Cordero has missed time with multiple injuries in his four-year big league career and has just 315 plate appearances in that time, but he has shown impressive raw power nonetheless. Nine of his 12 career home runs have gone 420 feet or more, including a 489-foot dinger in 2018 that is tied for the 12th-longest home run in Statcast history. The 26-year-old also has 22 barrels and a 12.4 percent barrel rate in the big leagues. Only 30 qualified hitters had a barrel rate of 12.4 percent or better last year. There is some swing and miss in Cordero's game, but he did lower his whiff rate from 38 percent to 20.2 percent in 2020. If the left-handed hitter sees enough playing time in Boston, he could pay off as a late-round sleeper with plus raw power and speed.
