RotoBaller PGA: One And Done Staff Picks - AT&T Pebble Beach

The PGA RotoBaller staff digs into their One and Done selections for the Waste Management Open. Here are some under the radar plays and picks for this week's event.

One And Done Staff Picks Overview

Here at RotoBaller, we are always searching for ways to give our readers the best fantasy sports content possible. With that goal in mind, we are very proud to announce the weekly PGA “One and Done” column will be back for a third season.

In this feature, our golf staff of Joe Nicely, Spencer Aguiar, Andrew Putters and Josh Bennett will provide their weekly golf picks every Wednesday. The purpose of this article is to present you with alternative options to consider and hopefully make your selection a much easier process weekly. With that plan in mind, let's get started!

For an in-depth breakdown of the top DraftKings and FanDuel plays, check out Joe Nicely's weekly Horse For The Course that highlights the best fits for the week's course. And you can also find out who the smart money is on by checking out Spencer Aguiar's PGA DFS: Vegas Report every week. Be sure to also read all of our other top-notch weekly PGA DFS and betting articles to help you win big!

One and Done Selections - Pebble Beach

Joe Nicely - Jordan Spieth

Alternate - Francesco Molinari

After feeling heartbroken last Friday due to Daniel Berger’s missed cut, I was suddenly rejuvenated by Jordan Spieth’s brilliant third-round 61 at TPC Scottsdale on Saturday. Yes, we’ve seen some fleeting glimpses from Spieth occasionally over the last few years - including a T9 in this AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am last year - but what sticks out to me about last week’s WMPO performance is how the former golden boy did it. He was as erratic as ever off the tee, but Spieth led the WMPO field in Strokes Gained: Approach, an area in which he was dominant during his heyday. We all know he can get ridiculously-hot with the putter, but I believe his iron play is the key if he’s to regain his long-lost form.

In Pebble Beach, he gets a dream layout to continue the positive momentum from last week. Spieth won this event in 2017 and has logged three additional AT&T top-10s over his eight career starts. The course plays to his strengths...iron play (we hope), scrambling, putting, and the ability to navigate unpredictable weather, while also being fairly lenient of his shortcomings off the tee.

Is this a donkey pick? Maybe. But I believe that in addition to being competitive, this contest should also be fun, and what’s more fun than rooting for Jordan Spieth?

Spencer Aguiar - Daniel Berger

Alternate - Patrick Cantlay

As we enter the fifth tournament of the year, it isn't easy to find much to complain about after four stellar top-five results. HOWEVER, with that being said, what does it take to earn a victory in this OAD?! All four selections have either held or been one shot off the lead entering Saturday, but it has not gone my way with sloppy weekend showings from the group. These games are typically about securing the big payday when you have a chance, and it has left the door wide open for anyone to swing themselves into first place with a win of their own.

There are many different routes to consider for the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, but I like the idea of staying aggressive with my premier options. There will always be fliers we can mix and match if the board starts to run thin late in the year, but I think there are more players than tournaments when discussing simple one selection contests over 30-plus weeks.

I could nitpick about Poa being the least ideal surface to use Daniel Berger on, not to mention that he is usually better on Par-70 layouts than Par-72s, but I think most of those facts are overanalyzing someone that should be one of the safer options on the board. Berger has provided two top-10 showings at Pebble Beach in his two attempts, and his missed cut at the Waste Management Open last weekend is more of an outlier than a sign of poor form. The 27-year-old leads this field with 22 consecutive rounds of par or better and is the top-ranked player in my DFS model. That is the kind of upper-echelon golfer I am looking to target.

Yearly Earnings - $1,631,725

Yearly Cuts Made - 4/4

Josh Bennett - Francesco Molinari

Alternate - Max Homa

I got some points back last week on a couple guys at least, although not quite the come-back I needed going against a couple MCs. This is a weird week, the strength of field is like a Sanderson Farms and it’s on a pretty difficult course for most of the event. Normally in events like these we’d see random guys tearing off big scores on their way to random wins, but I don’t think that’s the case this week. Although tee shots will not be an issue for much of the event, great iron play and around the green play will be important because of how small and difficult the greens are.

We should see the “grinders” succeed. I had a few guys I was thinking about this week, but decided on one of the ultimate boring golf grinder-type guys in Molinari. After a long while of being terrible at golf, he has found some form and seems to be back to what he used to be. He hits the ball out somewhere safe, gets it on or near the green and goes to the next hole with a par. Boring but effective, especially this week. As long as he occasionally rolls some putts in for birdie, he will be in the hunt this weekend.

Yearly Earnings - $58,430

Yearly Cuts Made - 2/4

Andrew Putters - Jordan Spieth

Alternate - Kevin Streelman

Jordan, Jordan, Jordan…….now with full disclosure here, this is a little of a fanboy play, but I’ve got stats to back this up. The guy is a former champion at this event, and his recent form last week tested his nerves. We all know that Jordan has it in him to be a champion and I think he has found his way in certain events. This event fits the bill. The driver is not as important in this event as it seems to be on other tracks. At Pebble, your ability around the green is always going to be important and Jordan has been a stud around the green every year. Plus, he has other past results in this tournament aside from the win and that’s also a plus. Remember, Andrew Putters said it, “Jordan, Jordan, Jordan.”

Yearly Earnings - $95,215

Yearly Cuts Made - 2/4
