BALLER MOVE: Add in 14-Team Leagues
ROSTERED IN: 11% of leagues
ANALYSIS: The Hornets have been without guard Terry Rozier for the past few games, and that has put LaMelo Ball in the starting lineup. That has also started a chain of lineup moves that impacted Monk, who leading up to Jan. 30 had only played more than 15 minutes in a single game once and appeared in six games total this season. That has changed of late, with Monk playing 23, 40, and 28 minutes in his last three games from Jan. 30 to Feb. 3 and excelled at it.
In the past week alone, Monk has logged 91 minutes on the court. That is more than the 68 he had played prior to Jan. 30 in six games combined. You read that right. Monk averages in the three games in which he's seen extended playing team were of 22.3 PPG, 3 RPG, and 1.7 APG. The best of all? He's scored three, nine, and three triples in those three games, he's shot a great 48.3 percent from the floor on 14.7 FGA per game, and he's even been able to get an average of 2.6 trips to the line nightly hitting all of his freebie attempts.
Whether Monk will be valuable ROS is mostly up to the Hornets backcourt health and a potential move if Charlotte ops to move on from the fourth-year man and send him packing elsewhere. There was a little bit of friction at the end of last year, and it is not clear (even less judging by this season's usage of Monk) if the franchisee wants to keep Monk going forward (he's an upcoming FA). As long as Rozier stays out or gets into rhythm (should be a week) and given Monk's exploits of late he should be a worth flyer to roster now in deeper leagues.
