New York Islanders goaltender Marcus Hogberg (upper body) was activated from Injured Reserve on Sunday. In a corresponding move, the team returned Jakub Skarek to the AHL. Hogberg has been out for 14 games due to an upper-body injury. He may receive the starting nod on Sunday against the Anaheim Ducks after Ilya Sorokin worked Saturday's matchup against the San Jose Sharks. Hogberg owns a 2-2-0 record for the season, allowing 1.45 goals with a .947 save percentage. Semyon Varlamov (lower body) is likely to miss the remainder of the regular season, making Hogberg the primary backup to Sorokin.

New York Islanders goaltender Marcus Hogberg will guard the cage in Saturday's game against San Jose. The Islanders are going with Hogberg for this one after seeing Ilya Sorokin give up four goals on 23 shots in Thursday's 5-3 loss to Philadelphia. This will be Hogberg's fourth start of the season. He has put in impressive performances, registering a 1.42 goals-against average with a .953 save percentage despite posting a 1-2-0 record. The Sharks sit second from bottom in the league and average the fourth-fewest goals, so Hogberg is in a strong position to improve his record.
