Boston Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy was held off the scoresheet for the fourth consecutive time to start the season as his team defeated the visiting Philadelphia Flyers 5-4 in a shootout on Thursday. The 23-year-old, who many believe is primed for a big year with increased responsibility, has yet to show it with a minus-three rating and just seven shots and seven hits thus far. Having lost a battle for a spot on the Bruins top power-play unit to fellow rearguard Matt Grzelcyk, McAvoy is receiving just 1:20 of time on the advantage per game. He'll look to get back on the right track when the Bruins face off against the Flyers again on Saturday.--Chase Davis - RotoBaller

Boston Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy sustained a shoulder injury during the 4 Nations Face-Off. He was held out of action during their contest against Team Sweden on Monday evening. McAvoy suffered an AC joint injury in his shoulder. However, he then developed an infection in that shoulder. He underwent a debridement procedure and remains in the hospital. McAvoy has been ruled out for Thursday's final against Team Canada and is expected to miss time once the NHL resumes. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status. With Team USA, he was playing top minutes. While sidelined, Jake Sanderson will likely remain in the lineup during their final game against Team Canada. Through 50 NHL contests, the 27-year-old has tallied 23 points with 89 hits and 81 blocks.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

Boston Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy (upper body) will return to the lineup on Thursday against the Winnipeg Jets. Boston has been without its No. 1 defenseman for seven games as McAvoy has been recovering from an upper-body injury. McAvoy will join Mason Lohrei on the first defensive pairing and is set to skate with the first power play unit. The 2024-25 campaign has not been kind for McAvoy, who is on track to finish with fewer than 40 points for the first time since 2020-21 when the NHL season was shortened due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He has recorded five goals and 20 points in 45 games.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller

Boston Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy (upper body) will miss a third consecutive game on Monday against San Jose. He continues to nurse an upper-body injury, and it's unclear when Boston will get him back. Nikita Zadorov and Brandon Carlo have made up the first defensive pairing during McAvoy's absence, with Mason Lohrei hopping on the top power-play unit. Lohrei has posted three assists with the man advantage over the past three games. He has a good chance to stay hot on Monday against San Jose's 79 percent penalty kill.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller

Boston Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy (undisclosed) was placed on Injured Reserve Tuesday, meaning he will miss at least two games. McAvoy's absence will begin with Tuesday's clash against Tampa Bay, and he will also have to sit out Saturday's contest against Ottawa. "Charlie's been dealing with a nagging injury for the last little while here," Bruins head coach Joe Sacco said on Tuesday. "So, he's going to be shut down for the next couple of games and then we'll reevaluate him after the game in Ottawa on Saturday and we'll see where he is next week." Parker Wotherspoon will replace McAvoy in the lineup on Tuesday. Mason Lohrei will take over from McAvoy on the first power-play unit, which gives his fantasy stock a nice little boost.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller
