Tua Tagovailoa The Starter Heading Into 2021
4 years agoMiami Dolphins general manager Chris Grier said that quarterback Tua Tagovailoa will be the team's starting QB in 2021. The fifth overall pick in this year's draft, Tagovailoa wasn't all that impressive in his rookie season. The 22-year-old was benched in the Week 16 loss to the Raiders and would've been the backup in Week 17 had veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick not contracted COVID-19. Tagovailoa threw for 361 yards and a touchdown in the loss to the Bills in the regular season finale, but he also threw a season-high three interceptions. He finished with 1,814 yards on 290 pass attempts (6.3 yards per attempt) for 11 touchdowns and five picks. Tagovailoa also ran the ball 36 times for 109 yards and three scores in 10 games (nine starts). There's certainly room for improvement, but he'll be more of a QB2 with upside heading into his sophomore campaign.
