Astros Interested In Reunion With Jason Castro
4 years agoThe Houston Astros remain interested in free-agent catcher Jason Castro, but a reunion isn't a sure thing as previously thought, according to sources. Other teams are involved with Castro, who was drafted by Houston 10th overall in 2008. The Stanford product played with the 'Stros until 2017 when he signed with Minnesota in free agency. Castro signed with the Angels before the 2020 season and was traded to the Padres at the trade deadline. The 33-year-old left-handed-hitting backstop has also been linked to the Rangers this offseason. He hit just .188/.293/.375 with two home runs and nine RBI over 80 at-bats with the Angels and Padres, and while the Rangers and Astros could both use an everyday catcher, Castro is best-suited in a platoon role at this stage of his career.
