Red Sox Expect A Better J.D. Martinez In 2021
4 years agoBoston Red Sox manager Alex Cora thinks outfielder/designated hitter J.D. Martinez will have a much better season in 2021. Martinez was fourth in the American League MVP voting in 2018 after he hit 43 home runs and led the league with 130 RBI while helping the Red Sox to a franchise-record 108 wins and a World Series title. He hit .304 with 36 homers and 105 RBI in 2019, but he hit only .213 with seven home runs and 27 RBI in the shortened 2020 season. After the down season, the 33-year-old wisely chose not to opt out of his current deal with Boston. He is owed $38.75 million over the next two seasons. Martinez will be the team's regular designated hitter in 2021 and definitely has the ability to put last year's struggles in the rearview mirror.
