Spencer Aguiar - Matthew Fitzpatrick
Alternate - Doc Redman
With roughly 2.4 million dollars left on the table in possible earnings and down three million in the OAD contest, the math no longer adds up. Bryson DeChambeau gave me more of Dr. Bruce Banner than he did the Hulk at Augusta, and it carried on with the tradition of disastrous performances from anyone I specifically saved for an event. I still don't concede because I find it likely that Collin Morikawa cheated during his PGA Championship victory that netted Joe nearly two million bucks (only one top-10 over his last eight tournaments since his win sounds fishy to me), but that is an argument for another day.
Whether your contest is just starting or almost ending, Matthew Fitzpatrick is an interesting pivot option away from the consensus picks near the top of the board. The Englishman is the 21st-ranked player in the world, and it is not as if you are going to be running to back him in other events throughout the season. I view this as a situation where you can grab one of the best players at the RSM at a reduced ownership rate, and those small contrarian edges can add up when playing in a large-field OAD contest.

After looking through the course, it’s pretty obvious to me that you just need insanely good irons and then to run hot with the putter for one weekend at this tournament. Most of the holes do not require a driver, plus it has four par 3’s, so off the tee play is almost irrelevant. Irons, putting, done. I have two pretty bad putters listed above here, but I’m really just hoping for a random breakout putting week which likely means a high finish or even a win. Henley specifically kept up with JT in iron play throughout the 2020 season, and is already finding himself near the top of the SG: Approach category for the 2021 season. That’s plenty good for me, especially in this field where he will be one of, if not the best iron player in the event. Assuming he plays to his typical level of iron play, the only thing that would hold him back is his putting. Even then, with an average week of putting, I think he finds himself in contention come Sunday.
