Jeff Smith An Unfavorable Option Versus Patriots
4 years agoNew York Jets wide receiver Jeff Smith has seen plenty of targets, but has been unable to capitalize on his chances. This season, Smith has hauled in 14 of his 33 targets, which is quite sad. The Jets continue to throw it his way expecting different results. He'll be a tough player to trust against the tough New England Patriots secondary. The Jets receivers are getting healthy, so Smith should see his targets drop significantly going forward.

Jeff Smith Ahead Of Denzel Mims
3 years agoNew York Jets wide receiver Jeff Smith was productive at the team's first day of mandatory minicamp practice on Tuesday and got a lot of run with the first-team offense. Smith is currently ahead of Denzel Mims for the No. 5 receiver spot, strictly based on practice repetitions, and Smith is also a top special-teamer. Mims ran with the second- and third-team offense on Tuesday. The former second-rounder had just eight catches for 133 yards in 11 games last year and has yet to score a touchdown in the NFL. He looks good physically this offseason, but he's still buried on the receiver depth chart behind Corey Davis, rookie Garrett Wilson, Elijah Moore and Braxton Berrios with training camp a month away. Perhaps the Jets will trade Mims this year.

Jets Re-Sign Jeff Smith
3 years agoThe New York Jets have re-signed exclusive-rights free-agent wide receiver Jeff Smith, cornerback Javelin Guidry, safety Elijah Riley and defensive lineman Tim Ward. Smith has spent all three of his NFL seasons with the Jets, compiling 26 receptions for 292 yards and no touchdowns on 56 targets in 25 total games (seven starts) in that span. He had just eight catches on 17 targets for 113 yards in 12 games (three starts) for the Jets last season. However, he did see an increased role on special teams as a gunner on kickoffs and punts. Smith will return to Gang Green for a fourth season, but he's well off the fantasy radar as primarily a special teams player.
