Richie James Jr. (WR, SF) - Week 10 Waiver Wire Pickups

ANALYSIS: It is going to be hard--way hard, in fact--to see Richie James Jr. reach the amount of playing time he got against Green Bay last Thursday, let alone watching him play to league-winning levels. The 49ers have been ravaged by injuries this season, and if that wasn't enough, COVID hit them hard just hours before their matchup against the Packers.

That meant all of Kendrick Bourne, Brandon Aiyuk, and Deebo Samuel were forced to miss that game. And it also meant San Francisco had to deploy the likes of River Cracraft, Trent Taylor,... and seemingly Monstar Richie James Jr.

Richie is a third-year wideout who had caught nine and six passes in his first two seasons for 130 and 165 receiving yards respectively. In just one game in which he's been targeted this season, this past Thursday, Richie James Jr. tied or bested all of those numbers. You read that right.

James finished Week 8's game with 13 targets (!), hauling in 9 of them for 184 (!) yards and a touchdown. He racked up 33.4 PPR points, which means he racked up more fantasy points in a single game than any other 49ers player has all season long other than George Kittle (40.1; 15/15/184/1) in Week 4.

If you play in something like a 16+ or 18+ Team league, maybe James isn't that crazy of a WW target. Other than that, you can pretty much pass on him even with all of the injuries San Fran is nurturing. If anything, I hope this post at least makes you a volume/opportunity-chaser in fantasy football going forward in case you still weren't a believer in the whole "targets = value" mantra.
