Darnell Mooney (WR, CHI) - Week 8 Waiver Wire Pickups

ANALYSIS: As ridiculous as it might sound, Darnell Mooney is Chicago's WR2 these days, and even more stupid, he's only rostered in 2 percent of Yahoo! leagues. Now, you tell me where can you find yourself such a heavy-role receiver already seven weeks into the season. Sure, Mooney is nothing otherworldly and he's miles below WR1 Allen Robinson II and stuck in a putrid QB-situation, but still.

Mooney (49.3) is just 0.5 PPR points below Anthony Miller (49.8) in combined fantasy points through Week 7. They are averaging a virtually similar 7.0 PPR per game each, but Mooney is out-performing Miller in targets, receptions, yards, and snaps. Miller is ahead of Mooney only because he's scored 2 TDs to the latter's one. That's it.

It is hard to speak of Mooney as a good weekly play, though. Mooney's floor and ceiling are relatively close, and his range of outcomes should be expected to be between 6 and 10 fantasy points most games. He's had a couple of under-4 PPR games, and he's topped at 11.6 points back in Week 2. His diet of targets is healthy, though, with at least 5 in the last five games. Just this past Monday he saw 7 and caught 3 of them for 40 yards. Mooney has averaged 10.4+ Y/R and caught at least three passes in three of his last four games.

Mooney is a good target for fantasy GMs playing in really deep leagues, someone to consider starting at the FLEX position on spot matchups (Chicago has three good games in its schedule that include two of the worst four defenses at stopping WRs from scoring fantasy points; Tennessee and Minnesota), and a receiver with WR3/2 upside here and there. Don't dream about booming games, though, as Mooney is nothing close to that.
