Denver Broncos quarterback Brett Rypien could be under center again in Week 5 on Monday night against the Patriots with Drew Lock (shoulder) questionable to play. As expected, Rypien was very up and down in his first career start against the Jets last week, going 19-for-31 for 242 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions in the team's first win of the year. He probably held off Jeff Driskel for another start if Lock isn't ready to go, but Rypien will be facing much stiffer competition in the Patriots if he gets another start. It doesn't help his cause that tight end Noah Fant (ankle) won't play this week, taking away one of the team's best offensive weapons. If Rypien receives the nod, he'll be nothing more than a desperation QB2 streamer in superflex leagues.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

Chicago Bears quarterback Brett Rypien lit it up in the Hall of Fame game by completing 11 of 15 passes for 166 yards and three passing touchdowns in the team's 21-17 shortened win over the Texans. Rypien also rushed one time for nine yards and entered the game late in the second quarter. After signing in free agency, Rypien will compete with Tyson Bagent for the backup quarterback role behind first-overall pick Caleb Williams. He'll have the rest of camp to prove he's worthy of a roster spot, with his next preseason chance coming on August 10th at Buffalo.--Tony Camino - RotoBaller

Veteran free-agent quarterback Brett Rypien is signing a one-year deal with the Chicago Bears, according to Ari Meirov of the 33rd Team. The 2019 undrafted free agent has thrown for 950 yards, four touchdowns, and nine interceptions in 10 career games with the Denver Broncos and Los Angeles Rams. He spent time with the Seattle Seahawks and New York Jets last year but did not appear in a game. The Bears are expected to select Caleb Williams with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, and Justin Fields is rumored to be on the trade block. That said, Rypien has a path to the backup role in 2024. Based on his career so far, he is not anywhere close to the fantasy radar.--Jackson Sparks - RotoBaller

Veteran quarterback Brett Rypien is being signed to the New York Jets active roster off of the Seattle Seahawks practice squad on Tuesday. The 27-year-old played in two games this year for the Los Angeles Rams, completing 18 of his 38 passing attempts for 172 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. New York also released Tim Boyle, so Rypien might have the chance to start ahead of Trevor Siemian and Zach Wilson in the near future. Although none of the Jets' quarterbacks have fantasy value in single-QB leagues, the starter will be rostered in superflex and two-quarterback formats. With the Jets likely falling out of playoff contention, it's becoming less likely that Aaron Rodgers (Achilles) will play again this season.--Jackson Sparks - RotoBaller

With the Los Angeles Rams set to sign quarterback Carson Wentz, the team waived quarterback Brett Rypien on Tuesday, according to a source. The move comes two days after Rypien made the Week 9 start against the Green Bay Packers for the injured Matthew Stafford (thumb). Rypien struggled in the 20-3 loss to the Packers at Lambeau Field on Sunday, completing just 13 of his 28 pass attempts for 130 yards, no touchdowns and an interception. He also fumbled twice, losing one of them. The Rams head into their bye in Week 10, but Stafford might not be ready to return after spraining the UCL in his right thumb in Week 8. If Stafford isn't cleared by then, Wentz will make his first appearance in the NFL since playing in eight games (seven starts) for the Washington Commanders in 2022.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
