Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Vince Velasquez allowed one run in six innings to earn his first win of the season Saturday against the Blue Jays. Velasquez allowed just two hits but walked three while lowering his ERA to 5.46. While that number looks high, his peripherals are a bit better with a 4.40 FIP and 4.16 xFIP. He has a 30-plus percent strikeout rate this season so he does have fantasy upside as a streamer. He'll face the Rays next week in a matchup that looks tough on paper. However, Tampa has the fourth-highest strikeout rate vs right-handed pitching and may be resting starters in the last weekend of the regular season.--Mike Schwarzenbach - RotoBaller

Pittsburgh Pirates starting pitcher Vince Velasquez (elbow) underwent season-ending right elbow surgery, according to sources. It's a pretty disappointing development for everyone involved after Velasquez was initially diagnosed with elbow inflammation when he landed on the injured list on May 28. The 31-year-old right-hander was in the midst of a solid first season in Pittsburgh before the injury, going 4-4 with a 3.86 ERA (3.90 FIP), 1.31 WHIP, 14 walks and 37 strikeouts in eight starts covering 37 1/3 innings. It's a tough development for Vasquez, as he's set to be a free agent this winter. Fantasy managers in deep-mixed, single-year leagues that had been stashing him can now safely send him to the waiver wire.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

Pittsburgh Pirates right-handed pitcher Vince Velasquez (elbow) has been placed on the 15-day injured list with right elbow discomfort. Velasquez, who was just activated from the IL prior to Saturday's start against the Mariners, only lasted two innings in the outing before being pulled. He's heading for his second stint on the injured list due to inflammation in the same elbow. He should be out a while this second time around. Meanwhile, Cody Bolton was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis in a corresponding move.--Jon Mathisen - RotoBaller

Pittsburgh Pirates right-handed pitcher Vince Velasquez (elbow) was removed from Saturday's start against the Seattle Mariners with right elbow discomfort. He allowed four runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out three across two innings before leaving. The 30-year-old just returned from the injured list on Saturday after missing the last few weeks with elbow inflammation. He exited Saturday's game with inflammation in the same elbow and is considered day-to-day. Velasquez owns a 3.86 ERA, 1.31 WHIP, and 37 strikeouts over 37 1/3 innings in 2023. The veteran right-hander's next start is in question, and the Pirates should have an update on Velasquez after further evaluation.--Brad Camara - RotoBaller

Pittsburgh Pirates right-handed pitcher Vince Velasquez (elbow) was activated from the 15-day injured list and will start Saturday against the Seattle Mariners. The 30-year-old hurler missed three weeks with right elbow inflammation but he's ready to go for Saturday's tilt in Seattle. Velasquez had quietly put together a great first season with the Pirates, recording a 3.06 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, and 34:13 K/BB ratio over 35 1/3 innings (seven starts). He should be up for streaming consideration against the Mariners' struggling offense--Jon Mathisen - RotoBaller
