Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Max Muncy was out of the starting lineup Tuesday against San Diego and right-hander Zach Davies due to his recent rough patch at the dish. With nine strikeouts in his last 17 at-bats, Muncy will get the day off, allowing Edwin Rios to stay in the lineup at the hot corner, even as Justin Turner (hamstring) returns. Muncy has driven in one run since Aug. 29 despite everyday playing time, with his average having sat below .200 for much of the past week. A boom-or-bust DFS play due to his slugging nature, Muncy’s next chance at returning to the lineup comes Wednesday versus the Padres, who have not yet announced a starter.--Jesse Borek

Los Angeles Dodgers third baseman Max Muncy will retreat to the bench for Friday's series opener in Philadelphia at Citizens Bank Park against the Phillies with left-hander Jesus Luzardo toeing the rubber. Veteran infielder Miguel Rojas will get the nod at the hot corner and will hit eighth against Luzardo, who he has one hit against in just two career at-bats. Muncy has been cold to begin the 2025 season offensively, although he did have a two-run double in Wednesday's walk-off win over the Atlanta Braves. Overall, the 34-year-old veteran has gone just 3-for-25 with a run scored and two RBI in his first seven games, so perhaps a day of rest will do him some good on the road. Rojas, 36, isn't really known for his exploits with the bat, so fantasy managers should look elsewhere at third base in DFS. He has one hit in his first 16 at-bats this year.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

Athletics infield prospect Max Muncy went 1-for-4 with his first career home run during their victory over the Seattle Mariners on Friday evening. Muncy would go deep in the eighth off Seattle left-hander Tayler Saucedo. This was also his first career MLB hit. Muncy was able to break camp with the MLB roster due to Zack Gelof (wrist) opening the campaign on the injured list. During the first two games of the season, Muncy has been deployed as the starting second baseman. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his development, but it appears he will continue to see everyday opportunities in the starting lineup. Last season, the former 25th overall pick posted a solid .277/.374/.491 line across 50 games at Triple-A. He is worth monitoring in deeper formats as he could be a viable middle infielder if he continues progressing at the MLB level.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

Athletics second base prospect Max Muncy got the starting nod on Opening Day but went 0-for-3 at the plate. Muncy was able to earn a spot on the roster given his strong play in camp and due to Zack Gelof (wrist) opening the season on the IL. In Thursday's contest, Muncy struck out twice. In spring training, the 22-year-old posted a .282/.383/.385 slash line with a 6:11 BB:K. Last summer, the former 25th overall pick in the 2021 MLB Draft spent most of his time at the Triple-A level. Across 50 contests in Las Vegas, Muncy posted an impressive .277/.374/.491 slash line with 11 doubles, eight long balls, and four stolen bases. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his development as he could become the No. 1 second baseman while Gelof is sidelined. Luis Urias and Max Schuemann could also compete for starts.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

Athletics infield prospect Max Muncy has made the Opening Day roster. Muncy is considered the No. 7 best prospect in the system on MLB Pipeline. The former 25th overall pick in the 2021 MLB Draft spent most of the 2024 campaign at the Triple-A level and will now make his MLB debut. Last summer, Muncy posted a solid .277/.374/.491 slash line with 11 doubles and eight home runs across 50 contests. During this stretch, the Thousand Oaks HS product swiped four bags and held an 18:50 BB:K. During spring training, Muncy posted a .289 AVG with one round-tripper. With top second baseman Zack Gelof (hand) set to undergo surgery and miss a significant portion of the campaign, fantasy managers should expect Muncy to compete for a starting role early in the season. He will likely split time at the keystone alongside Max Schuemann and Luis Urias. He is worth adding in all AL-only formats before Opening Day.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller
