Tony Kemp Starting Monday, Nate Orf Scratched
5 years agoOakland Athletics infielder Tony Kemp will start at second base and bat ninth against Marco Gonzales and the Seattle Mariners in the first game of Monday's doubleheader. Nate Orf was in the original lineup playing third base, but now Kemp has drawn in, and Tommy La Stella has shifted to the hot corner. Kemp and his .243 average are an afterthought in fantasy formats for Wednesday's slate. More news on Orf's status will also likely come later in the day.

Tony Kemp Signs With Twins
12 months agoJon Heyman of the MLB Network is reporting that infielder Tony Kemp has agreed to a minor-league deal with the Minnesota Twins. The veteran spent Opening Day with the Baltimore Orioles, but was recently let go in favor of top prospect Jackson Holliday. In his brief time with the Orioles, Kemp was hitless in nine at-bats. The veteran should provide solid depth for a Twins team that has lost infielders Royce Lewis (quadriceps) and Carlos Correa (side) to injuries early on in the season, but can be avoided in fantasy leagues.

Tony Kemp Designated For Assignment
12 months agoThe Baltimore Orioles designated infielder/outfielder Tony Kemp for assignment on Wednesday to make room on the active roster for top prospect Jackson Holliday. Kemp got the start at second base for the Orioles in their win over the Red Sox on Tuesday, but now he's off the 40-man roster and could be with another organization before long. The 32-year-old was cut by the Cincinnati Reds at the end of spring training and only appeared in five games for Baltimore in the early going, failing to record a single hit in 10 plate appearances. If he's not claimed off waivers or traded, Kemp could wind up sticking around in the O's organization if he accepts an assignment to the minors leagues.

Orioles Sign Tony Kemp
1 year agoThe Baltimore Orioles signed infielder/outfielder Tony Kemp to an undisclosed major-league contract on Tuesday and designated third baseman Nick Maton for assignment in a corresponding move. Kemp was in spring training with the Cincinnati Reds but opted out of his minor-league deal and is now headed back to the American League after slashing just .209/.303/.304 with five home runs, 27 RBI and a career-high 15 stolen bases in 124 games with the Oakland Athletics in 2023. In addition to being able to play the outfield, the 32-year-old left-handed-hitting veteran can also fill in at second base for the Orioles. At best, Kemp is going to fill a reserve role for the O's in 2024 and isn't much of a fantasy asset. The former fifth-round pick of the Houston Astros in 2013 out of Vanderbilt is a career .238/.325/.352 hitter with only 35 homers in eight big-league seasons.

Tony Kemp Joins Reds On Minors Deal
1 year agoFree-agent outfielder Tony Kemp signed a minor-league deal with an invitation to major-league spring training on Friday with the Cincinnati Reds. Kemp will come to camp hoping to win a roster spot as a utility player for a Reds team that is already stacked with position players. The 32-year-old veteran left-handed hitter has hit .240/.330/.345 with 20 home runs, 114 RBI, 37 stolen bases and 172 runs scored for the Oakland Athletics the last two seasons. He's fallen off the last couple of seasons at the plate, though, and batted .209 (75-for-359) with five homers, 27 RBI, a career-high 15 stolen bases and 42 runs scored in 419 plate appearances and 124 games in 2023. Kemp will be facing an uphill battle to make the Opening Day roster for Cincy.
