Denny Hamlin Fades To A 13th-Place Finish At Darlington
4 years agoJoe Gibbs Racing's Denny Hamlin finished Sunday night's Cook Out Southern 500 in 13th-place. Hamlin, who has been amazing at Darlington in his career, just didn't have enough to challenge for his fourth win there on this night. Hamlin started from second and slipped a couple of spots early, but ran at the front all night. Late in the race, Hamlin missed the pit road entrance, after a bump from Jimmie Johnson, and lost a ton of track position. After a caution racked the field back up, Hamlin was stuck in heavy traffic and was unable to work his way back into the top-10. Hamlin did lead 19 laps in this race, but it primarily came during the green flag pit stop cycle. Hamlin will look to get back on track next week at Richmond, another place where he has been successful.
