FanDuel, DraftKings NHL DFS Lineup Picks (8/23/20): Daily Fantasy Hockey Advice

Sunday features a two-game main slate which starts at 8:00 pm ET for DraftKings and FanDuel with the Boston Bruins facing off versus the Tampa Bay Lightning. The nightcap features the Vegas Golden Knights clashing against the Vancouver Canucks.

Remember, when looking around for plays, an over/under of 6 dictates offense, but an over/under of 5 or sometimes 5.5 tilts towards the goalies. There are several games at 6.5, as that has become the new norm in hockey now.

In this article, I will be providing you with my daily fantasy hockey lineup picks for DraftKings and FanDuel on 8/23/20. DFS Forwards to Consider

Brayden Point - C, TAM vs BOS (FD - $7,700, DK - $6,400)

Point fired in seven points in the first round on a ton of shot volume. The center has been a major thorn in the side of the Boston Bruins in the past. The neutral site may help Point and there is last line change (Tampa has that). Point is the most expensive center on FanDuel for good reason. His point potential is that high. Boston is facing a Tampa Bay power play that may be stronger than Boston's (even without Steven Stamkos.

Some other choices might include Elias Pettersson and David Krejci. Also, do watch that Tampa Bay third line. Their price is creeping up but this trio can produce some clutch moments and set up the top lines as well.

Mark Stone - W, VGK vs VAN (FD - $7,300, DK - $6,100)

The forward remains vital and on the Vegas top power play unit which could be lethal against a penalty kill ranked in the bottom third. Stone scored a few goals in the opening round and enjoyed some nice efforts against the Chicago Blackhawks. Stone and Vegas need to get off to a fast start. That start begins with Stone and Max Pacioretty.

Also, Consider:

It is a prudent idea to go exploring for more secondary scoring on Sunday. With just two games, searching for differences is paramount.

Exploring the second and third lines this time of year has to be done more than the top power-play units, etc. Typically, games feature less penalties on average as the playoffs move along. Even strength play develops more and more importance. Finally, look at players like Tyler Motte even. Then, there exists the Tanner Pearson's of the world too. That Tampa Bay line 3 stack is not too far fetched along with a side order of the second Boston line to save some dollars.

DFS Defenders to Consider

Shea Theodore - D, VGK vs VAN (FD - $6,200, DK - $6,000)

This is a solid option with Theodore up against a yes, porous defense. Vancouver, behind Jacob Markstrom did keep things mostly under control even when the ice tilted. Theodore is one of those players that is a sustained threat for years to come. Theodore is going up against one of the worst penalty kills in hockey.

His floor is a bit low normally but lately that has not been the case. In his last game, he had several shot and a couple blocks. Theodore is a bit of a floor risk but

Quinn Hughes - D, VAN vs VGK (FD - $5,500, DK - $4,700)

Easily, this comes down to getting chances and creating. Hughes does an A+ job there. Furthermore, he has 14 shots in his last four games while hitting the DraftKings shot bonus twice. At some point, his name could hit the goal or assist column and soon. He snatched an assist on Friday against the Vancouver. That is only the beginning.

With value and punt defensemen, one may have to dig slightly deeper than usual. Yes, Alexander Edler is just $4,400 on FanDuel but he does not carry quite as much value.

DFS Goalie to Consider

Robin Lehner - G, VGK vs VAN  (FD - $8,300, DK - $8,000)

This is all about taking a goalie most likely to get a win with a good performance. That should be Lehner who has won eight of his nine starts since becoming a member of the Vegas Golden Knights. The only question will be this. How many shots will be face?

For FanDuel, some may take a shot at. Andre Vasilevski (could face 30-35 shots).  Shot volume would be the only risk as while Lehner isn't expecting 30+ shots, Jacob Markstrom is the most likely to as Vancouver allowed 35+ shots in eight of his final ten starts of the regular season. That has continued during the playoffs.
