BALLER MOVE: Add in All Leagues
OWNED IN: 27% of leagues
ANALYSIS: Taylor Williams continues to be under-rostered in fantasy. As the closer in Seattle, Williams has five saves on the season with a 3.27 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 16 strikeouts in 11.0 IP. Williams has emerged from nowhere in the preseason to be the ninth-inning guy for the Mariners and any question marks over his role should now be eradicated after Friday night where he converted the third consecutive save opportunity the Mariners have had. The last time someone else picked up a save in Seattle was Carl Edwards Jr. on August 05th who came in for the ninth inning after Williams pitched the eighth (and gave up three earned runs).
But since that outing, Williams hasn't given up a run in six appearances (6.0 IP) and although he isn't exclusively pitching in the ninth inning (he came in to pitch the fifth inning against the Dodgers), no one else in the Mariners bullpen has been able to secure a save. Williams' numbers aren't all smoke and mirrors either as his 3.07 SIERA and 3.08 FIP suggests he has pitched well and his 34.0% K% backs up his high strikeout numbers. The Mariners have a lowly 9-19 record so save opportunities aren't going to come along too often and there's always a chance Williams gets traded, but he's picking up saves, striking out hitters and isn't giving up runs in the process, making him a definite add in all leagues.
