Alexander Colome Emerging As Elite Closing Option
4 years agoChicago White Sox closer Alexander Colome has yet to allow a run thus far in 2020, having yielded just seven baserunners in his nine innings of work. While there was some preseason concern that Colome could be a trade chip and thereby zapped of fantasy value, he appears to be firmly entrenched in the closer’s role with a team that should stay in contention all season. After years of being hit hard, Colome has skirted hard contact with a career-best 20.8 Hard Hit % and 86.4 MPH exit velocity. As multiple clubs shuffle their bullpen structure or opt to go the route of closer by committee, Colome’s value only increases; having locked down all six of his save chances to this point, the veteran should be a trade target for owners to nab as he continues his elite stretch.
