Seth Lugo To Start Thursday And Remain In Rotation
4 years agoNew York Mets pitcher Seth Lugo will start for the Mets on Thursday against the Miami Marlins and remain in the starting rotation indefinitely. Manager Luis Rojas said the plan is to stretch Lugo out and keep him in the rotation following Thursday's start. Lugo has historically been much more effective out of the bullpen. As a relief pitcher, Lugo’s career ERA is 2.53 versus a career ERA of 4.06 as a starter over 31 starts. As a result, the Mets have opted to primarily utilize Lugo as a reliever for the past two seasons. This decision to move Lugo into the rotation is suspect at best, given the well-documented struggles the Mets have had in the bullpen. Moreover, this move will significantly hurt Lugo's fantasy value. Wins and quality starts will be tough to come by before he is stretched out, Lugo's ratios will likely decline based on his past performance as a starter, and saves will no longer be in play for Lugo. Owners in redraft leagues who have Lugo rostered for saves needs should now look elsewhere given the Mets' poor decision.
