MLB Betting Picks (8/15/2020) - Moneylines, Totals, and Runlines

Tom Bellucco recommends betting picks for the MLB slate on 8/15/2020. He breaks down each team's situation and suggests the top picks on moneylines, totals, runlines, and more!

Welcome back, RotoBallers! My sincerest apologies if you missed me last weekend. I was enjoying a relaxing bachelor weekend with some of my best friends, and betting MLB just wasn't on my mind. However, the good news for you is that I've remained HOT since my return on Tuesday. I've now profited up over 12 units on the year with my public MLB bets, and hopefully you've made some money along the way too! Let's keep this run going today, and remember you can find me on Twitter even on my days off!

As I'm sure you already know know, Steve Janik and I will be sharing the duties of writing up an MLB Betting article every day of the week! All season long we'll be supplying you MLB betting articles with a few of our favorite picks for the day in baseball. Along with the picks, we'll give a little write-up with some supporting evidence for the picks, and we'll keep track of our records throughout the course of the season. You can always find my updated picks for the day as well as my running tally @BellRoto on Twitter. I'll also do my best to continue posting my picks there on my "Off Days" for this series.

  • Friday, August 14: 3-2
  • 2020 Season Total: 44-33

Without further ado, let's get to the picks for today's slate. Please make sure to follow me on Twitter @BellRoto, as I'll post any updates and/or additions to these picks there throughout the day. I'll also field any questions or comments on Twitter as well as in our Premium RotoBaller Slack Chat under the Sports Betting channel. Here we go!

Milwaukee Brewers (-120) at Chicago Cubs

O/U: 9.5

MIL: Adrian Houser, CHC: Colin Rea

While it hasn't looked it so far this season, I do believe that the Cubs and Brewers have very comparable offenses and run-scoring ability. We finally saw Christian Yelich look dangerous with a three-run homer to score the game-winning run last night. As such, this number feels off when we compare the Brewers' Adrian Houser to the Cubs' emergency replacement pitcher, Colin Rea. Rea will be making his first career start due to Tyler Chatwood's injury, so we can expect a bullpen game from Chicago. Meanwhile, Houser has been a model of consistency for the Brewers' rotation over the past three seasons. Give me the Brew Crew to continue getting back on track with a divisional victory on Saturday.

Pick: Brewers (-120) 1 Unit

Texas Rangers at Colorado Rockies (-166)

O/U: 11.5

TEX: Kyle Gibson, COL: German Marquez

Kyle Gibson is exactly the type of pitcher I like picking on at Coors Field. Plenty of contact to go around, a high WHIP that should get even higher tonight, and a lack of experience pitching in the park. Meanwhile, while no one has really mastered pitching in the Colorado air, Marquez seems to be the closest in recent memory. He has continued his dominant ways this season, and while a home run or two is definitely in the cards for an aggressive pitcher at this park, I think the Rockies are in a good position to open the floodgates and win by a handful.

Pick: Rockies -1.5 (+108) 1 Unit

San Diego Padres (-119) at Arizona Diamondbacks

O/U: 9.5

SD: Cal Quantrill, ARI: Alex Young

We could have a full-on bullpen game here, as both starters have spent the start of this season coming out of the bullpen. That being said, I trust the pedigree and potential of Quantrill much more than Young, who has shown some hiccups in his game early on. On top of that advantage, the Padres have already demonstrated a dangerous lineup combination or two in their first 20 games. I imagine when the lineup cards come out that I'll feel much better about San Diego's run potential. While there are some variables here, I'm seeing a Padres advantage in most categories. This line is tempting enough for me to throw two units on it as a result!

Pick: Padres ML (-119) 2 Units
