Rafael Montero Delivers Second Straight Save
4 years agoTexas Rangers right-hander Rafael Montero has now reeled off saves in back-to-back contests, seemingly having taken over the closer’s role with Jose Leclerc on the injured list. Prior to Friday, Montero had never recorded a save in his career, but he has retired all six batters that he has faced in the ninth. After being hit hard during his time as a starter with the Mets in 2017, Texas unleashed him as a reliever last season and saw him post a 2.48 ERA in 22 appearances. Getting the save chance and promptly locking down two saves is as good an indicator as any that Montero is the new closer in town for the Rangers, making him a consideration for those eyeing saves in medium-sized leagues or larger.
