5 years agoToronto Maple Leafs defenseman Jake Muzzin was injured near the end of Game 2 and left the ice on a stretcher. A series of collisions, starting with a cross-check from Pierre-Luc Dubois, led to Muzzin awkwardly falling to the ice where he remained until the medical team reached him. Muzzin was able to move his arms and legs and was responsive before being taken off the ice. Muzzin was taken to the hospital after leaving the game, removing him from the NHL bubble. It is unclear at this time how long Muzzin will be out due to this injury, or for re-entry into the NHL bubble, but it is safe to assume Toronto will head into Game 3 on Thursday without him at the least.--Russ Ivanac - RotoBaller

2 years agoToronto Maple Leafs defenseman Jake Muzzin (neck) has been ruled out for the rest of the 2022-23 campaign. He is recovering from cervical spine surgery and won't be able to get game-ready even by the time the playoffs come around. The 32-year-old managed to skate in just four games at the start of the season. The Maple Leafs have done just fine without him, but Muzzin is an extremely experienced player and his know-how as a former Stanley Cup champion can't be underestimated. Muzzin's contract runs through the 2023-24 season, and he has skated in 683 regular-season contests, picking up 69 goals and 225 assists.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller

2 years agoToronto Maple Leafs defenseman Jake Muzzin (neck) is out indefinitely with a cervical spine injury, the team has announced. He has already been sidelined since Oct. 17, having managed to skate in just four games at the start of the season. Toronto is set to re-evaluate him in late February. Muzzin's injury has resulted in a lot of the team's younger blue-liners playing big parts this season. The Maple Leafs have a pretty decent defensive record without him, but their results have left a lot to be desired and they will be hoping for some good news in February.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller

3 years agoToronto Maple Leafs defenseman Jake Muzzin is dealing with discomfort in his back and will miss the start of training camp. It's been projected that he will be available early next week. Muzzin had awful luck with injuries last season and was limited to just 47 regular-season appearances. It wasn't a particularly good year for the veteran as he settled for only 14 points and ended up with a minus-six rating. It's the fewest points he has averaged during the past seven seasons. The 2014 Stanley Cup champion did much better during the postseason, bagging three points in seven games with a plus-four rating.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller

3 years agoToronto Maple Leafs defenseman Jake Muzzin will be scratched for Tuesday's clash with Buffalo. He's just back from a long-term injury and it looks like the team wants to play it safe with him. According to head coach Sheldon Keefe, Muzzin is dealing with an issue that isn't related to the concussion which forced him to miss 20 games. The 33-year-old has made three appearances since returning to action. Muzzin is set to be replaced by Timothy Liljegren on Tuesday. He skated with Morgan Rielly during Monday's practice and could be a very interesting DFS option against a bad team. --Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller
