5 years agoCleveland Indians catcher Roberto Perez (shoulder) was placed on the 10-day injured list Wednesday, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports. He has been dealing with a sore right shoulder and it's apparently serious enough for him to sit for at least 10 days. In the meantime, Sandy Leon will act as the primary catcher while Beau Taylor takes on the backup duties. Fantasy players who roster Perez should be making pickups now, as it looks like the catcher will be sidelined for some time.--James Stokke

2 years agoSan Francisco Giants catcher Roberto Perez (shoulder) exited Friday's meeting with the Royals. There wasn't much information released when the injury occurred. However, Maria Guardado of MLB.com provided an update, reporting the veteran has a sprained shoulder. Perez has two hits in 15 at-bats this season while amassing a hideous .133 average, so he hasn't contributed much on the fantasy end. That said, the 34-year-old will likely miss some games. With Joey Bart (back) on the IL, Blake Sabol could be spending time behind the plate.--Dennis Clausen - RotoBaller

2 years agoSan Francisco Giants catcher Roberto Perez (undisclosed) was pulled early during Friday's game against the Kansas City Royals. It's uncertain what happened, but Perez was taken out after attempting to throw out Kyle Isbel in the sixth inning. Blake Sabol moved from left field to behind the plate. The Giants are already without Joey Bart (back) right now. They cannot afford to lose another catcher, but fantasy managers will have to check back for another update on Perez.--Andy Webb - RotoBaller

2 years agoFree-agent catcher Roberto Perez signed an undisclosed deal with the San Francisco Giants over the weekend, according to a source. Perez only played in 21 games for the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2022 and hit .233/.333/.367 with a .700 OPS, two home runs, eight RBI and eight runs scored. The 34-year-old suffered a season-ending torn right hamstring, but he should be healthy for this year. Perez could stand a decent chance of backing up Joey Bart in 2023, but he won't really be on the fantasy radar, even in deeper leagues. In his nine-year major-league career, Perez has a .207/.298/.360 slash line with a .658 OPS, 55 home runs and 192 RBI. He's never come remotely close to replicating his 2019 season with the Cleveland Guardians, when he hit .239 with a career-high 24 home runs and 63 RBI.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

3 years agoPittsburgh Pirates catcher Roberto Perez (hamstring) has been placed on the 10-day injured list. He was forced to exit early during Saturday's first game of the doubleheader versus the Cincinnati Reds. Perez was unable to put any pressure on his leg, so he could end up missing significant time. Andrew Knapp and Michael Perez should split up the catching duties in Pittsburgh until Perez returns.--Andy Webb - RotoBaller
