Giants Call Up Catcher Chadwick Tromp
4 years agoThe San Francisco Giants have called up catcher Chadwick Tromp. They have DFA'd Rob Brantly in a corresponding move. The 25-year-old Tromp has an intriguing profile. He's never played in the majors before. Last year, which he primarily spent at Triple-A, he slashed .280/.397/.568 with nine home runs and 37 RBI in just 42 games. With Buster Posey opting out for the 2020 season, the team has relied on Tyler Heineman behind the plate. A 29-year-old with just five major league games under his belt before this season, Heineman has been surprisingly effective so far, going 4-for-9 with two walks, two runs and a stolen base. Expect Tromp and Heineman to have something like a 50/50 time-share at the start, but if Tromp can get hot, he could be an intriguing player to watch in deep leagues.
