Dominic Smith Goes Yard In Mets Win
4 years agoNew York Mets first baseman Dominic Smith blasted a three-run home run in the Mets 7-4 win over the Red Sox on Monday night. Smith, who was hitting as the Mets designated hitter, was making his first start of the season. The homer was Smith's only hit in four at-bats. In 2019, Smith hit .282/.355/.525 with 11 homers and 25 RBI in just 177 at-bats. If the Mets can somehow find more consistent at-bats for Smith and get him in the lineup regularly, he would become quite a fantasy-relevant hitter in mixed leagues. With Yoenis Cespedes serving as the regular DH, and Pete Alonso starting at first base, Smith is blocked from regular playing time. It would take an injury to Alonso, Cespedes, Robinson Cano, Jeff McNeil or J.D. Davis to get Smith into the lineup regularly at DH, left field or first base, unless the Mets start to get creative to take advantage of his bat.
