Isiah Kiner-Falefa (C/3B, TEX) Week 1 Waiver Wire Pickups

Positional flexibility has opened up the potential for Rangers catcher/third baseman Isiah Kiner-Falefa to find his way onto fantasy rosters. RotoBaller's Dave Swan takes a look at the formats in which Kiner-Falefa will be of best service to owners.

BALLER MOVE: Add in two-catcher leagues

OWNED IN: 5% of leagues

ANALYSIS: Isiah Kiner-Falefa got pushed down the catcher rankings before a majority of drafts. That makes a lot of sense, as he only showed a meager ability to hit the long ball -- only five career home runs in 618 plate appearances is very underwhelming.

Another factor that hindered him was that he would be splitting at-bats with other catchers in Texas. Currently, the Rangers were rostering too many options at catcher: Robinson Chirinos, Jeff Mathis, and Jose Trevino, in addition to Kiner-Falefa.

Fast forward a few months, and a lot has changed, however. Todd Frazier moved across the infield to first, and a full-time role as the starting third baseman opened up for Kiner-Falefa. This opportunity became viable after seeing the production from his new swing. Back in Spring Training, Kiner-Falefa led the team with four home runs and a 1.167 OPS over 37 at-bats.

If Kiner-Falefa can keep up the newfound power gains and continue his ability to swipe a few bases -- he has 10 SBs over the previous two seasons -- he will become a must add-in two-catcher leagues.
