Harold Varner Hot With His Irons
5 years agoHarold Varner III will stay at Muirfield Village and play in his fourth Memorial Tournament after a missed cut at the Workday Charity Open. Varner’s strength continues to be his approach play, as he ranks 25th in the field in strokes gained on approach. Last week at the Workday, he lost strokes on approach, which will likely regress back to the mean. This season, Varner ranks 16th in the PGA in strokes gained tee to green, and with Muirfield Village being a ball-striker’s course, he will need every stroke he can get. At $7,700 on DraftKings, he’s likely a better cash-game play.

Harold Varner III Inconsistent Entering FedEx St. Jude
3 years agoIt was a very disappointing week for Harold Varner III last week at the Wyndham Championship. Varner, who was one of the popular picks to contend, failed to make the cut and looked out of sorts in an event many thought he could win. It has been a stretch of inconsistent golf from HV3. He has missed the cut in two of his past four events and has not posted a top-five finish since the RBC Heritage back in April. The one area of Varner's game that is cause for concern is his putting. He has lost strokes putting in five straight events, which is a major red flag heading into a time of year where every putt is even more important. He let a lot of DFS players down this week, so his ownership won't be high. It is a loaded field with a lot of good players, which makes HV3 a less intriguing option this week.

Harold Varner III A Threat To Contend At Wyndham
3 years agoHarold Varner III has had a great season in 2021-2022 and will look to continue his strong play heading into the FedEx Cup playoffs. Varner has made the cut in nine of his last 10 events, posting two top-10 finishes during that time. HV3 picked up his first professional win in six years earlier this year, winning the PIF Saudi International back in February. Varner is still searching for his first PGA Tour win, which could finally happen later this week if his recent play continues. Varner is one of the best iron players on the PGA Tour and ranks 28th on tour in strokes gained on approach. Varner has played in this event the past five years, making the cut all five times, and he has posted two top-10 finishes at Sedgefield Country Club. He is a great DFS play and should also be considered for an outright bet.

Harold Varner III An Intriguing Play
3 years agoHarold Varner recorded a missed cut at The U.S. Open last week. However, that was his first missed cut since The Genesis in February. Before the U.S. Open, Varner gained strokes tee-to-green in seven straight events. At The Canadian Open, he gained 5.7 on approach and 10.5 tee-to-green. While Varner doesn't have excellent course history, his form could offer some nice value for him. The recent missed cut could keep some from rostering him and his ownership down.

Harold Varner III Looks To Continue Strong Form
3 years agoHarold Varner III arrives in Canada off six straight made cuts. During that streak, Varner has recorded a sixth-place finish at the Players and a third-place finish at the RBC Heritage. While Varner has played well as of late, he has actually lost strokes off the tee in three straight events. If Varner is going to perform well consistently, he will need to improve that metric. Varner is priced moderately high on DraftKings and is currently projected to be low-owned. He makes for a great sleeper option for GPPs.
