Welcome back, RotoBallers! The English Premier League is back! This is a competition that I know a lot about, in fact here across the pond we just call it the Premier League!
In this article, I will be providing you with my English Premier League daily fantasy soccer lineup picks for DraftKings on 7/15/20 for the slate that locks at 1:00 pm ET. Be sure to also check out our other DFS lineup picks for other active sports.
The DraftKings DFS slate is for two games, and below I'll give a quick preview of each of them (so you know what to expect) and then move onto some names to consider for your lineups. If you aren't familiar with how players score in soccer on DraftKings take a look at their scoring methodology. And to submit a lineup you need to select one goalie, two defenders, two midfielders, two forwards and a utility player (most likely a midfielder/ forward). You can always find me on Twitter @RichKingFF if you have any questions. Good luck RotoBallers!
English Premier League DFS Lineup Picks - Overview
Burnley v Wolves
Wolves picked up a win over Everton in their last game, rebounding from a poor result from the game before. Wolves have a clear game plan, and didn't change it after some results that didn't go their way. The team have a few injury concerns, but they should have enough depth pieces to overcome them.
Burnley, on the other hand, are a team that have been playing very well in recent weeks, despite being ripped apart by a number of injuries to some of their key players. That being said, if Wolves play as they can, Burnley are unlikely to pick up a result.
Manchester City v Bournemouth
Bournemouth stole a victory over Leicester in their last game, but they aren't a great team. With a few key players likely to miss the rest of the season through injury, and others suffering from a lack of form, this could be a long day for the visitors.
Facing Manchester City, who have scored five goals in each of their past two games, this only looks to go one way. That is, alot of goals for the home team and most likely a clean sheet.
Newcastle v Tottenham
Newcastle are safely in mid-table, with little to play for, and come off the back of their past two games resulting in losses. Watching the team on the weekend, they just looked like they are waiting for the season to end, looking very lazy in the game.
Tottenham won their derby game over Arsenal, but it wasn't at all a classic, and they didn't really deserve the victory. However, with Harry Kane now looking fully fit, the team always has an opportunity to score a goal. With Newcastle phoning it in, I'd expect a victory for the visitors.
DraftKings DFS Midfielders / Forwards
You'll see as we go through the slate that there are lots of players that have dual eligibility to be in your midfield or forward slot. Here you are looking for players that are constant scoring threats, as well as players that get involved in wide areas where they can put in crosses.
This slate is all about trying to get exposure to Manchester City's players, possibly through multiple lineups. Again, Kevin De Bruyne ($11,000) is the premier play on the slate, with his heavy involvement in pulling the strings from midfield. Equally, opting for any of the likely attacking trio of Raheem Sterling ($10,100), Gabriel Jesus ($9,300), and Riyad Mahrez ($9,000) are all worth getting exposure to. It's essentially a slate where I'm putting in a combination of these guys and building round them.
Elsewhere, for Tottenham, the team is full of inconsistency outside of Son Heung-Min ($10,700) and Harry Kane ($8,500). Given the pricing, Kane seems like the stronger play as the team's primary goal-scoring threat. Both players have the ability to score a goal from a small opportunity, and against Newcastle they should see plenty of attacking chances.
Otherwise, I'd look to mix in exposure to Raul Jimenez ($7,900) who is Wolves' primary attacker, or Newcastle's Dwight Gayle ($6,300) who has been in good form in recent weeks.
My bargain play this week is Ruben Neves ($3,900) as he has looked like he is back to his best, starting the team's attacks and getting forward.
DraftKings DFS Defenders
Defenders are where it starts to get interesting. In an ideal world, you want a defender who has a good chance of keeping a clean sheet while getting involved in attacking play. This slate doesn't have a team that looks like it will have a good chance to keep a clean sheet, so it's a case of looking at wing-backs.
I'm looking at trying to get Manchester City defenders. Joao Cancelo ($5,200) is likely to be playing on the right of defense, and gets forward often for the team. I'd also be fine with opting for Aymeric Laporte ($3,900) in the middle, he might not get forward too often but has a good chance of a clean sheet. Laporte is also effective at corners, giving him a remote chance of getting on the scoresheet too.
Otherwise, I'd look to Tottenham's wing-backs. Serge Aurier ($5,600) is the safer play, as he typically gets involved more often in the attacking phases than his counterpart Ben Davies ($4,300).
Outside of those options this is another slate where Jonny ($4,400) is strong play for Wolves
DraftKings DFS Goalkeepers
Three games on the slate, but doesn't feel like there are alot of options at goalkeeper. Ederson ($5,900) is the clear option if you can afford him, with Bournemouth struggling to have any consistent threat in attack. Outside of him, I'd look for Hugo Lloris ($5,500) who faces a team with nothing to play for (Newcastle United) and have looked inconsistent infront of goal.
You could also hope that Nick Pope ($3,900) continues his good form against Wolves, if you need to save on salary, but it is a risky play.
And that's it! Any questions, you know where to find me otherwise Good Luck RotoBallers.
