Cole Custer Wins A Stunner At Kentucky
4 years agoYes, that just happened! Stewart-Haas Racing's Cole Custer pulled off a massive upset and won Sunday's Quaker State 400 at Kentucky Speedway. In a two-lap shootout, the rookie made a four-wide move around the top, going from fourth-place to the lead, to collect his first career Cup Series win. The win gets Custer into Wednesday night's All-Star race, at Bristol, and puts him in a great position to make the playoffs. Custer started deep in the field and methodically moved his way up, running most of the day just outside the top-10. Custer then caught a timely caution, during the final green-flag pit sequence, and took advantage of the free track position. Starting in sixth on the final restart, Custer immediately moved to fourth, and then benefited from the chaos in front of him, going by the front three as the white flag waved. Custer also led five laps during the race and gave the owners that played him in DFS an amazing surprise.
