Cam Gallagher Tests Positive For COVID-19
4 years agoThe Kansas City Royals announced on Saturday that catcher Cam Gallagher has tested positive for COVID-19. Gallagher isn't showing any symptoms, but he'll need two negative tests in order to return to the team. The backstop hit a home run in the intrasquad game on Friday night. This is especially troubling for the Royals with Salvador Perez and Meibrys Viloria also out for the time being. Nick Dini, Freddy Fermin, Oscar Hernandez, MJ Melendez and Sebastian Rivera are the options not on the 40-man roster. Gallagher, 27, played in 45 games in 2019 and hit just .238 with three home runs and 12 RBI in 142 plate appearances. With Perez expected to see most of the starts this year, Gallagher is an afterthought.
