Collin McHugh Optimistic About His Status For Start Of Season
Collin McHugh (elbow) could be ready to go for the start of the season after recovering from an elbow injury during the shutdown. The 33-year-old signed a one-year deal with the Red Sox in early March but did not pitch in any spring training games as a result of his forearm flexor strain. “I feel pretty comfortable moving forward from here,” McHugh said on Friday, but mentioned that it's too early to predict what role he will take on during the shortened season. The veteran made eight starts for the Astros in 2019 and posted a 4.70 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 82 strikeouts through 74 2/3 innings between the rotation and bullpen. If McHugh is to join the Red Sox rotation, the right-hander will be worth monitoring in AL-only formats in starts against favorable opponents during the upcoming campaign.

Collin McHugh Starting Rehab Assignment Tuesday
Collin McHugh (shoulder) will begin a minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Gwinnett on Tuesday. In addition to McHugh, right-handers Nick Anderson (shoulder) and Daysbel Hernandez (forearm) are starting their rehab assignments with Gwinnett. The Braves also reinstated reliever Jesse Chavez (shin) from the 60-day injured list and designated left-hander Lucas Luetge for assignment. McHugh went on the 15-day IL on Sept. 6 with right-shoulder inflammation, but he should be able to rejoin Atlanta's bullpen for the stretch run soon after a couple minor-league appearances. The 36-year-old veteran has a 4.30 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and 47 strikeouts in 58 2/3 innings over 41 outings (one start) for Atlanta in 2023.

Braves Activate Collin McHugh From Injured List
Collin McHugh (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list on Tuesday and optioned left-hander Danny Young to Triple-A Gwinnett in a corresponding move. The club also placed outfielder Eli White on the paternity list and recalled outfielder Nick Solak from the minors. McHugh landed on the injured list in early April with right shoulder inflammation, but he's fine now and will return to a relief role in Atlanta's bullpen. Before his injury, the 35-year-old veteran hurler allowed a run on four hits while walking three and striking out two in just 3 2/3 innings pitched. McHugh doesn't have much fantasy appeal unless he's in a starting role for the Braves.

Collin McHugh Likely To Return Monday
Collin McHugh (shoulder) felt great after throwing three innings in a minor-league rehab game for High-A Rome on Saturday. He was scheduled to rest a couple days and then will likely join the Braves bullpen by Monday. McHugh has been out since feeling right shoulder soreness on April 5 in an outing against the St. Louis Cardinals. The 35-year-old tossed three scoreless innings over the weekend and looks set to come off the injured list to give Atlanta's bullpen some reinforcements. Barring a return to starting duties, though, McHugh doesn't have very much fantasy appeal at all working in relief.

Collin McHugh Begins Rehab Assignment Tuesday
Collin McHugh (shoulder) is beginning his minor-league rehab assignment with High-A Rome on Tuesday. McHugh is close to returning after landing on the injured list in early April with right shoulder inflammation. Barring a setback while pitching in the minors, he should be able to return to Atlanta's bullpen before the calendar flips to May. The 35-year-old made just three relief appearances before getting hurt, and he had allowed one run on four hits while walking three and striking out two in 3 2/3 innings. As long as McHugh remains in Atlanta's bullpen, he'll have limited fantasy appeal in deep fantasy leagues that reward points for holds.
