Dominic Smith Could Be An Option At DH
4 years agoIf New York Mets outfielder Yoenis Cespedes is healthy, he figures to be the team's primary designated hitter this year, given his recent injury history. But if he's not ready for the start of the season in late July, first baseman/outfielder Dominic Smith and third baseman/outfielder J.D. Davis are both good options. Neither player is a defensive asset in left field and both are blocked by 2019 National League Rookie of the Year Pete Alonso at first base. Smith and Davis both offer plenty of offensive upside, as Smith hit .282/.355/.525 with 11 homers and 25 RBI in just 177 at-bats last year, while Davis hit .307/.369/.527 with 22 dingers, 57 RBI and 65 runs in 410 at-bats. Davis is the much more attractive fantasy option because he has a more direct path to consistent playing time at either third base, left field or DH. We should know more when spring training 2.0 kicks off late next week.
