Steelers Go Running Back In Anthony McFarland Jr.
5 years agoThe Pittsburgh Steelers took Maryland running back Anthony McFarland Jr. with the No. 124 overall pick in the fourth round. McFarland shows instant acceleration and natural elusiveness out of the backfield at 5-foot-8, 208 pounds. He can pick up big chunk gains out in space because he's quick and elusive, and he'll bring an added element to Pittsburgh's running back room alongside James Conner and Jaylen Samuels. With Conner's recent injury history, McFarland could see more playing time than expected in his rookie season in 2020.

Anthony McFarland Jr. Leads All Rushers In Preseason Win
2 years agoPittsburgh Steelers running back Anthony McFarland Jr. handled 10 carries for 55 yards and a touchdown in the team's preseason victory over the Atlanta Falcons. McFarland relieved Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren of their duties in the first quarter and received plenty of opportunities in the first half. The fourth-year pro powered through multiple Falcons defenders for a five-yard score in the second quarter that gave the Steelers a 24-0 lead. After an impressive summer, McFarland has given himself a great shot to make the final 53-man roster but is unlikely to make an impact for fantasy football in 2023.

Anthony McFarland Jr. Scores In Preseason Opener
2 years agoPittsburgh Steelers running back Anthony McFarland Jr. handled three carries for 18 yards and a touchdown as well as one reception for five yards in a 27-17 preseason victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. McFarland took over for Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren after Pittsburgh's first offensive drive and displayed impressive burst on his 14-yard score in the second quarter. The 25-year-old is unlikely to carve out a significant role for himself this season but has been performing well in camp and seems to have a hold on the team's RB3 spot. McFarland will remain off of the fantasy radar as long as Harris and Warren are healthy.

Anthony McFarland Jr. Goes For 41 All-Purpose Yards In Week 12
2 years agoPittsburgh Steelers running back Anthony McFarland Jr. carried the ball six times for 30 yards and added 11 yards on two catches in a 24-17 win over the Indianapolis Colts in Week 12. McFarland received his first touches of the season with Jaylen Warren (hamstring) inactive and Najee Harris leaving with an abdominal injury late in the first quarter. The third-year running back could have a role in Week 13 against the Atlanta Falcons if Harris and/or Warren were unable to play, although it is apparent that McFarland is behind Benny Snell Jr. in the pecking order in the Pittsburgh backfield.
