Dellin Betances Bounces Back
5 years agoNew York Mets relief pitcher Dellin Betances (shoulder, Achilles) made his second Grapefruit League appearance on Wednesday against the Cardinals, with much better results than his first outing on Saturday. In one inning pitched, Betances allowed no hits and just one walk, inducing three flyouts. Of note, however, Betances' fastball sat at only 91 mph, up just one mph from his prior outing, which does give rise for concern. Betances continues to work his way back from shoulder and Achilles injuries that limited him to only one game last season for the Yankees. If Betances is ready for the start of the 2020 season, he will serve as the setup man in front of closer Edwin Diaz. Betances will have value in holds leagues and for strikeout upside if his health is not a concern. He is also likely to be first in line for save chances in the event Diaz falters during the season.
