Jed Lowrie Still Without Timeline To Return
5 years agoNew York Mets infielder Jed Lowrie (leg) still has no timeline to appear in Grapefruit League games due to lingering left leg injuries. Although he has been fully participating in drills over the past couple of weeks, he is sporting a large brace on his left leg that is preventing him from getting into games. At this point, it is doubtful that Lowrie will be ready to go by Opening Day. He will most likely open the season on the injured list, with Eduardo Nunez making the Mets roster as a utility infielder in Lowrie's absence. Lowrie missed nearly all of last season with left knee and hamstring injuries. If he can eventually overcome these injuries, Lowrie will function in a utility infielder role. As a utility infielder, however, it would take an injury to Jeff McNeil, Robinson Cano and/or Amed Rosario to guarantee consistent playing time for him in 2020. As such, even when healthy, Lowrie is nothing more than a late-round selection or waiver claim as bench depth in NL-only formats.
