A.J. Pollock 2020 Outlook: From Potential All-Star To Platoon Outfielder
5 years agoIt was not long ago that A.J. Pollock was a popular target for fantasy baseball players. But after another injury-riddled season in 2019, Pollock is a late-round flier, at best, for most drafters. In 2019 Pollock only played in 86 games for the Dodgers and has not played in more than 113 games in a season since he was a member of the Diamondbacks in 2015. In 86 games he still managed to hit 15 home runs to go with a decent .201 ISO and .333 wOBA. So, not all was lost, but Pollock still is not producing the overall fantasy results that his draft price demands. Imagine if Pollock would play 140+ games, he could be back to a lock-and-load fantasy asset. Well, don’t imagine too hard because it is not likely to happen in 2020 with the Dodgers. The Dodgers have a herd of outfielders on the active roster. The current outfield looks like Cody Bellinger in centerfield, Joc Pederson in left field and Alex Verdugo in right field. For now, it appears Pollock will have a platoon role with either Pederson or Verdugo. It would be the short side of the platoon and fantasy players would be hoping for 100 or so games played and 15-20 home runs. With the platoon in place, it is hard to draft Pollock at his ADP of 257 and should be a pass on draft day.
