Mitch Moreland Could Return To Boston
5 years agoOnce considered a long shot to re-sign with the Boston Red Sox, it's looking more likely that first baseman Mitch Moreland will return. Sam Travis is now off the 40-man roster, and only Michael Chavis and Bobby Dalbec are capable of playing first base, but both of them are right-handed bats on a team loaded with righties. Moreland was limited to 91 games in 2019 due to injury, but he'd provided a needed left-handed power bat after hitting 13 home runs in 46 games in the first two months before suffering a lower back strain in late May. He finished with a .262 average, 18 homers and an .887 OPS against right-handed pitching. Moreland would likely be in a platoon if he returned, but his power would give him corner infield appeal in deep mixed and AL-only leagues. He's unlikely to receive more than $4 million for one year.
