Ilya Samsonov To Make NHL Debut On Friday
5 years agoWashington Capitals goaltender Ilya Samsonov is set to make his first career NHL start on Friday versus the New York Islanders. The 22-year-old is considered one of the top goaltending prospects in the game today and could very well take over the reigns in Washington should Braden Holtby depart via free agency this summer. Samsonov had struggled at times in his first pro season in North America last season - posting a 2.70 goals-against average and a .898 save percentage in 37 AHL starts but is considered an incredible talent in net. As the backup netminder on a very good team in Washington, Samsonov is a guy to keep an eye on throughout the first few months of the 2019-2020 campaign.
