Mike Nugent Replacing Stephen Gostkowski
5 years agoThe Patriots have signed free-agent kicker Mike Nugent to replace Stephen Gostkowski, who was placed on Injured Reserve on Wednesday. Gostkowski is a candidate to return later this year, but Nugent will handle the kicking duties for New England in the meantime. The second-round pick back in 2005 played in three games for the Raiders last year and went 6-for-6 on field goals and 4-for-5 on extra points. He has a career 81.4 percent field-goal percentage, although he's 13-for-30 on attempts of 50-plus yards. Nugent should get his chances in the Patriots offense, but he's not a viable streamer for now.
