Calvin Ridley Could Be Poised For Strong Week 1
5 years agoAtlanta Falcons wide receiver Calvin Ridley capitalized on teams double-teaming No. 1 receiver Julio Jones all year last year, but this week he may find himself capitalizing off of Jones' absence. As Jones remains in contract negotiations with the Falcons, he's looking less and less likely for Week 1. If Jones indeed misses the game, Ridley would see a heavy increase in targets, essentially operating as the team's No. 1 receiver with Mohamed Sanu right behind. The Vikings had one of the league's top passing defenses last year, so the matchup will be a tough one for Ridley, but the opportunities should be aplenty if Jones is out. Ridley is still a worthy starter even if Jones plays and has a strong chance to score a touchdown in either scenario, but his catch and yardage upside varies greatly depending on Jones, as he could be around eight catches and 100 yards without Jones. He's probably capped around four or five catches and 70 yards with Jones in the lineup.
