Nick Mullens Emerging As Quality Backup
5 years agoSan Francisco 49ers quarterback Nick Mullens continues to have a strong camp, per ESPN’s Nick Wagoner. The second-year Mullens was thrust into the limelight last season and performed solidly as a rookie, with 2,227 pass yards, 13 touchdowns and 10 picks in eight games. Although the starting job belongs to Jimmy Garoppolo (knee), Mullens appears the frontrunner to win backup duties ahead of C.J. Beathard. With quality regular season action under his belt, the 24-year-old could raise his stock with a strong training camp and earn interest amongst teams desperate for quarterback help. Without a clear path to playing time, Mullens isn’t in the fantasy mix entering Week 1.
