Brewers Pick Up Drew Smyly On Minor League Deal
5 years agoThe Milwaukee Brewers have signed pitcher Drew Smyly to a minor league contract and will insert him into the rotation with their Triple-A affiliate. The left-hander posted a 1-5 record with an ugly 8.42 ERA and 1.91 WHIP through 13 appearances (nine starts) with the Rangers earlier this year before getting released last month. It's a low-risk move for the Brew Crew as he still has a decent strikeout arm and may just need more reps after missing the previous two seasons recovering from Tommy-John surgery. Smyly likely won't make an impact with the big league club anytime soon, but he could find himself getting a few starts or throwing in long relief for the Brewers later in the year.
