Gerrit Cole Has 10-Plus K's In Nine Starts This Season
5 years agoHouston Astros starter Gerrit Cole allowed only one run with 10 strikeouts in seven innings as the Astros beat the Mariners 6-1 on Sunday. For Cole, it was the ninth time he has struck out at least 10 batters in one start and leads all of baseball this season with 161 strikeouts. After a couple of so-so starts in May, Cole has been absolutely lights out in the month of June. Over his last six starts, the right-handed hurler is 3-0 with a 1.89 ERA, a 1.03 WHIP and 49 strikeouts over his last 38 innings. Cole currently is averaging 13.41 strikeouts per nine innings, which would be a new career- high for the impending free agent. The 28-year-old is an elite fantasy option every time he takes the mound.
