Welcome to the Monday, July 1st edition of Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox.
Discussing baseball is as fun as the game itself. It has a way of bringing people together to share different opinions about the sport we all love. A similar action can be done with fantasy baseball where we not only discuss topics but also look to improve our teams as well as the teams of our fellow fantasy baseball enthusiasts. Everyone has their own perspectives which are not to be cast off as frivolous. They should be used as a method of expanding our own knowledge.
In this article, I review the previous day's boxscores and provide my opinion on a variety of topics. Some will be random, some will be fun, and some will be stat-driven. It's a soapbox so I may rant from time to time as well. So without any further delay, below are my thoughts on July 1st. Enjoy them. You can even respond with your own thoughts on Twitter @EllisCan2.

Daily Musings
- Shane Bieber solves the O’s offense w/eight scoreless innings, 0BB, 11K. Not even that was the best performance of the day.
- Surprise production. Eric Sogard continues to hit w/3HR, 9RBI, .390 in last 15 days (.342 over last month). When bats awaken, runs will mount up atop Jays lineup.
- Ian Kennedy w/11SV and counting. Never would have thought it.
- Anthony DeSclafani, nice showing vs Cubs. Six scoreless w/1BB, 7K. Can you do it a few more times?
- Every time I turn around, Kyle Schwarber hits a HR, but AVG sits at .234. Plus, a .320OBP for a leadoff guy? I’ll take the 43 runs though.
- Yasiel Puig w/Summer-lovin. 7HR, 6SB, .287AVG in Jun. Career .279-hitter in July. Another good month ahead.
- With recent performance, we are excited to see Bryce Harper get AVG to .250. 15th HR is good. 14.9%SwingStrike rate is a bit much.
- Joey Gallo calls long-distance 20th HR. Three HR in six games since IL. Please don’t leave me ever again.
- Blake Snell sharp-shootin’ w/12K across six innings w/only two ER allowed. ERA drops all the way down to…4.87. Huh?!
- Pitching performance of the day goes to Mad Max. 8IP, 1ER, 0BB, 14K for Max Scherzer. If only Detroit could turn back time. If they could find a way…
- Victor Robles steals 11th base to go with 12 homers. I’m really surprised by a very poor 81.4mph Avg Exit Velo. Thank goodness for Billy Hamilton & Ender Inciarte holding down the bottom two spots.
- Trea Turner up to sixth place in steals(17). Moving fast.
- Four games w/o a Yordan Alvarez HR? Have we been abandoned?
- Shout-out to Australian-native Lewis Thorpe w/5IP, 2ER, 7K…if not for a rain delay, …? Great debut. Yes, I know it was vs the ChiSox, but at least Lucas Giolito (5IP, 0ER, 4K) was on the mound. If Thorpe stays up, maybe a couple FAAB $ can be found.
- Yoan Moncada just needs to stay on the field to conclude the amazing bounce-back season. 14HR, 5SB, .304AVG.
- Can’t stop Nelson Cruz from lobbing his 16th crowd-pleaser into the stands.
- The BoSox bullpen is challenging for the worst in the league. It’s like a sieve back there. Nine more runs allowed.
- MEDIC!!! Check Christian Yelich for a pulse. Eight games w/o a HR?
- Keston Hiura, C’mon, Man. We didn’t bring you back up to get caught stealing. Get the lead out.
- No sweet Taters for LAD on last day in Coors. A win is just as sweet.
- The running (two SB) has definitely slowed this year for Charlie Blackmon, but the power(20HR) hasn’t.
- Eduardo Escobar is a chaser(40%) and has had success thus far. Can it continue in the second half?
- Andrew Heaney, are you sure you’re fully healthy? 6IP, 5ER, 8K.
- THUNDER!! Patience provides. Matt Chapman heating up w/5 moonshots, 16RBI, .345AVG over last 15 days. An All-Star.
- He will not be contained any longer. Manny Machado w/10HR, 23RBI in 15days. Wow! That helps in the standings.
- Combo meal for Ronald Acuna w/20th HR, 13th SB. Much more productive at the leadoff spot. Delicious.
- Dylan Cease FAAB festivities could be next. Debut set for Wednesday.
- Enjoy your Monday short-slate of baseball. Be engaged with a new baseball mate.
- No Fear, Just Fantasy.
