Whit Merrifield Smashes Two Homers
5 years agoKansas City Royals utility man Whit Merrifield recorded the second multi-home run game of his career on Tuesday against the Mariners when he went yard in the fourth and eighth innings of KC's rout. Merrifield drove in six in the game, and he even covered for teammate Adalberto Mondesi when Mondesi had to leave the game early due to an injured groin. After already setting the franchise record for longest hit streak earlier this season, Merrifield is back at it again, hitting safely in eight straight games. The 30-year-old is now hitting .306 with 10 homers and 11 stolen bases, and while he's been overshadowed by Mondesi, he's still an incredibly productive player with a ton of positional eligibility to boot.
