Alex Wood To Throw Bullpen Saturday
6 years agoCincinnati Reds starting pitcher Alex Wood (back) will work his third bullpen session on Saturday and then face hitters in live batting practice next Tuesday. Wood was acquired from the Dodgers in the offseason in the trade that also involved Yasiel Puig, but he hasn't pitched in a game since Feb. 25 during spring training because of lower back spasms and has multiple setbacks along the way. Wood is hoping he won't need as many as four or five minor league rehab starts before making his season debut with the Reds. The left-hander immediately saw his fantasy appeal drop in the move from L.A. to Cincinnati, and the injuries have just compounded things. He can be useful in the right spots as an innings-eater when he's healthy, but those in mixed leagues can take a wait-and-see approach whenever he finally pitches for the Reds in a game.
