Alex Dickerson Traded To Giants
6 years agoThe San Diego Padres traded outfielder Alex Dickerson to the San Francisco Giants for right-handed pitcher Franklin Van Gurp on Monday. The 29-year-old Dickerson had shuttled between Triple-A and the majors this season and was batting .158 in 19 plate appearances for the Padres. With a crowded outfield in San Diego, Dickerson’s path to playing time was hazy so he’ll likely have an easier shot for big league action with the Giants. After two seasons on the shelf with various injuries, Dickerson was posting a 1.075 OPS in Triple-A in 26 games. In return, the Friars receive 23-year-old Van Gurp, a former 25th-round pick who holds a 4.81 ERA and 13.1 K/9 in 33 2/3 innings across Single-A and Double-A this season.
