6 years agoFree agent starting pitcher Dallas Keuchel has mostly been linked to the New York Yankees of late, but the St. Louis Cardinals are among other teams with a chance at signing the 31-year-old. The Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves are also still connected to Keuchel, to a lesser extent. New York apparently remains the frontrunner, but St. Louis would probably be a slightly better destination for Keuchel's fantasy value--his 2018 K% of 17.5 was his lowest since 2012, and pitching to contact at Yankee Stadium could end poorly. Meanwhile, opposing offenses in the AL East and NL Central would be about even. Regardless of where he signs, Keuchel should be owned in mixed leagues once he does to see where things go. His value may reach its peak right before his first start, however.--Nathaniel Green

9 months agoMilwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Dallas Keuchel has been designated for assignment, according to Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. In a corresponding move, the Brewers promoted right-handed pitcher Joel Kuhnel from Triple-A Nashville. Keuchel posted a poor 5.40 ERA, 1.86 WHIP, and an 8:11 BB:K ratio across his four starts as a Brewer. Kuhnel has operated exclusively out of the bullpen in his minor league career and posted a 2.30 ERA and 1.28 WHIP in Triple-A Nashville earlier this season. Fantasy managers should pay close attention to the Milwaukee rotation after the mid-summer classic, as there is currently an open spot. Joe Ross (back) and Bryse Wilson are candidates to claim the open rotation spot and could be worth a look in deeper leagues.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

9 months agoAfter being acquired by the Milwaukee Brewers in a trade with the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday, veteran left-hander Dallas Keuchel will make the start on Wednesday in the series finale against the visiting Texas Rangers. Keuchel has plenty of big-league experience and even won the American League Cy Young in 2015 with the Houston Astros, but he's bounced around the league since his final season in Houston in 2018 and has pitched in only 24 major-league games (20 starts) with four different teams since the start of 2022. He hasn't been good in that span, either, posting a 7.96 ERA and 1.91 WHIP with 70 strikeouts and 49 walks in 98 1/3 innings. However, Keuchel had a 3.93 ERA and 1.21 WHIP in 71 innings for Triple-A Tacoma over 13 starts this year before the trade. If Keuchel pitches well against Texas on Wednesday, he could stick around in Milwaukee's rotation.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

9 months agoThe Milwaukee Brewers have acquired starting pitcher Dallas Keuchel from the Seattle Mariners in exchange for cash considerations. The veteran southpaw signed a minor league deal with the Mariners in late-May. He currently holds a 3.93 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, and 45/22 K/BB across 13 starts in the minors this season. The 36-year-old might still have a little left in the tank. The expectation is that Keuchel will replace Chris Rodriguez in the starting rotation. This is a nice feel-good story for Keuchel, but he doesn't offer much fantasy appeal at this stage of his career.--Andy Webb - RotoBaller

12 months agoIf the Seattle Mariners decide to skip young right-hander Emerson Hancock's next turn in the starting rotation and if righty Bryan Woo (elbow) isn't ready to return from the injured list by then, newly signed left-hander Dallas Keuchel could be an option to temporarily replace Hancock. The 12-year-old veteran and former Cy Young winner threw five scoreless innings in his season debut with Triple-A Tacoma on Sunday. Levi Stoudt, Casey Lawrence and Jhonathan Diaz could also be candidates for a spot start for the M's. It would be a cool comeback for Keuchel, 36, but his upside would be limited for fantasy managers and his stay in Seattle's rotation would likely be a short one with either Hancock or Woo replacing him sooner or later.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
